A basic stock of herbal formulas can be useful.
Chinese medicine has some great herbal formulas to help with those awful bugs that circulate from time to time. There are some I find particularly effective and choose to keep stocked in my own personal pharmacy. A few of my clinic patients have also recently found the advice and home remedy recipe contained in this article helpful:
Natural Remedies For Colds.
Herbal formulas I find useful to have on hand when the ‘lurgs’ are circulating, include:
ChinaMed CNF Formula
This is my family ‘go to’ remedy for early stage cold symptoms that involve sniffles, headiness, slight cough, chills, sore throat, slight fever. Personally I find this best used at the first sign of something trying to ‘get’ me. Once a head-cold is well established there may be other formulas that are more effective.
ChinaMed Antitox Formula
This is my personal favourite as an immune support formula when I am around other people who are sick. I dose myself up on this in clinic when I have had unwell patients coming for treatment. I also use it as a booster to the other formulas listed here if I can feel something brewing. This formula has anti-viral properties can be helpful when used for low grade acute infections.
Ping Wei Wan
This classical formula is used for many different digestive disorders. I find it useful to have on hand for early stage gastro bugs and upsets.
Xiao Chai Hu Wan
This ancient formula also has many uses. I find it particularly helpful for swollen glands, alternating chills and fever, body aches, head aches associated with colds and flus.
